BBC complains of Chinese censorship
LONDON – The British Broadcasting Corp. complained Tuesday that Chinese authorities were blocking access to its Chinese language Web site.
The British broadcaster said Chinese residents had been able to access BBCChinese.com in the runup to the Beijing Olympics, but that it had now become more difficult to view the site.
"It has been a source of great regret that audiences in China are unable to access BBCChinesecom as the rest of the world can," the BBC said. "We will endeavor to continue working with the Chinese authorities to improve access for our Chinese-speaking audiences in China."
There was no Chinese comment about the BBC statement.
Earlier Tuesday, Chinese authorities said they had the right to block Web sites that contain content illegal under Chinese law.
The country's Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said some Web sites broke the law by referring to Taiwan as an independent country rather than part of China.
China routinely blocks Web sites that contain sensitive topics such as Tibet or the Dalai Lama. However, during the August Olympics, as part of its promise to widen media freedom, China opened up access to sites that are typically banned.
But in recent months, Internet sites including the BBC and Voice of America have again reported being blocked by Chinese Internet censors.
"It's clear that China has no intention of fulfilling the hopes it raised when it was awarded the 2008 Olympic Games that the Chinese media universe would enter a period of expansion," said Bob Dietz, Asia program coordinator for the Committee to Protect Journalists, a U.S-based group that campaigns for journalists' rights worldwide.
"Instead, all we have seen is a continuation of the same narrow policies of official resistance and restriction of foreign and local media."
China has the largest number of Internet users in the world with more than 250 million people online, but it has also put in place a sophisticated system to police Web sites for sensitive material.

中国外交部发言人刘建超表示，有些网站违反了中国的法律，因为他们认为台湾是一个独立的国家，而不是中国的一部分。
中国习惯性地屏蔽一些涉及敏感话题的网站，比如西藏、达赖。但是，在8月的奥运会期间，作为对扩大舆论自由的承诺，中国开放了那些具有代表性的被关闭的网站。
但是，在近几个月，包括BBC、美国之音在内的网站又被中国屏蔽。

中国有世界上人数最多的网民，有2.5亿，但是中国也建立了一个精密的来监管涉及敏感材料的体系。

制裁？
怎么制裁，人家是国外的网站，服务器也在国外。不是中国法律管的了的。。。

继续抱怨吧， 活该被封 屏蔽BBC、美国之音等网站,太好了! 从来不上外国网的人飘过 自由网络浏览在中国全面放开的可能性不大。。。
真假消息牵扯到很多敏感问题。。。
不过。。我们的部分新闻报道确实有被官媒控制嫌疑。。
