Financial and health worries have forced Mr Christmas to cut down
'Christmas comes but once a year' is a familiar phrase, and indeed for many people the 25th of December is the highlight of the calendar.
But for one British man once a year is not enough. Andy Park, who is better known by his nickname Mr Christmas, has celebrated Christmas every single day for the last 14 years.
The 44-year-old electrician claims to have eaten a full roast dinner every day for the last decade and a half, munching his way through over 5,000 turkeys, 117,000 Brussels sprouts, and around 30,000 roast potatoes in the process.
He also sends himself a Christmas card every day and looks forward to unwrapping a present he has bought himself each evening, while watching the Queen's Speech.
Mr Park estimates his festive fetish costs him £150 (1,570 yuan) a week. This year, however, the divorcee says he is feeling the pinch due to the global financial crisis, and is scaling back his celebrations.
His Christmas habit is putting a strain on more than just his wallet. Mr Park was previously warned by his doctor that his Christmas addiction could kill him. His daily over-indulgence has caused his weight to skyrocket to 19 stone (121 kg).
So how did Andy Park's obsession with Christmas begin?
"I'll never forget the day it started," said Mr Park, "the sun was shining, but I was just feeling fed up and bored, so I went home and put the decorations up. Suddenly I was happy. I thought, this is fun. So I did it again the next day, and the day after that."

用心装扮圣诞

朝九晚五，平凡得不能再平凡、普通得不能再普通。圣诞节，总算有了一个放松的理由。可是，今年在英国，伴随着圣诞倒计时的，是金融危机、信贷紧缩、房市暴跌、工作不保、百年老店倒闭、英镑大幅贬值……
今天，我在这里给您分分心，挂上几串彩灯、点上几枝蜡烛，营造一点圣诞气氛，说说英国人家里的圣诞摆设。
重头戏
一进入12月，主妇之间的闲聊就会不由自主地扯到圣诞节的准备工作上。除了买礼物、准备吃喝外，家居装饰也是一个重头戏。就像中国人过年挂对联、贴窗花一样。
摇曳的烛光、闪烁的彩灯、缤纷的圣诞树、绚丽的圣诞红，不仅能够渲染气氛，背后还有故事。

代表圣诞的一品红
一品红（又叫圣诞红，Poinsettia）
这是圣诞节必不可少的盆景。
一品红常年叶子都是绿色的，但是到了圣诞节前后，就变成了红色。颜色很鲜艳，就像开花一样。
墨西哥传说中有个小故事：从前有个小女孩，参加圣诞夜教堂弥撒买不起礼物，就从路边摘了一把花。小女孩记得，用爱心奉献的礼物，耶稣肯定会接受。想到这里，她的心情开朗了许多。跪拜在耶稣诞生的布景前，女孩手中的小花突然变成了鲜艳的红色。在场所有的人都觉得目睹了一场圣诞奇迹。
圣诞树（Christmas tree）
缺什么都成，可不能没有树。爸爸扛着树、孩子跟在后面跑，妈妈忙着挂彩球、孩子赶紧往下摘，都是传统。
据说，公元八世纪左右，英国德文郡的圣徒波尼菲斯（Saint Boniface）到德国一个以圣诞装饰著名的地方去传教，带回了圣诞树和纪念耶稣生日挂钩的传统。圣诞树的三角形状被用来解释基督教的“三位一体”，常青则代表着人类永恒的希望。
英国维多利亚女王执政期间，报纸上登出了她和丈夫、孩子围坐在圣诞树下的照片，圣诞树成了时尚，此后越来越普及。

彩球大概是最传统、最普遍的圣诞树挂件了。
它1610年起源于德国的劳莎（Lauscha）。据说，每天下班前，吹玻璃的工人都会玩个小游戏，比比谁吹出的玻璃球最大。然后，工人的妻子们把玻璃球在硝酸银里涮一下，使它看起来更亮，再拿到市场上出售。
随着技术的不断发展，玻璃工人创意更加得心应手，玻璃球越来越普及，后来出口到英国。最开始，还只是有钱人显示财富的手段。大概是在1890年代晚期，用玻璃球装饰圣诞树普及开来。

槲寄生是寄生植物，绿色茎叶，腊白色的浆果。在英国普遍被用作圣诞装饰物，人们可以在槲寄生下接吻。Pagans异教徒认为，槲寄生有创造新生命、赋予生育能力的神奇力量。在槲寄生下接吻可能是早期异教徒结婚仪式的一部分。
槲寄生绿色常青以及它与接吻之间的联系都被用来解释代表着基督教弘扬的爱心以及永生。

冬青原本是罗马农神节期间人们互赠的礼物。很多人相信，农神节是圣诞节的前身。传说，耶稣背负的十字架就是冬青木做成的。一些人也相信，耶稣头带用冬青枝编成的花冠，上面的浆果最开始是白色的，后来耶稣的鲜血将它染成了红色。
冬青四季常青，代表着永生，它的果实代表着耶稣的鲜血。

不少欧洲地区都有放置圣诞花环的传统
圣诞花环（wreaths）
很多人家大门上都会挂上一个圣诞花环。大多用常青的新鲜草木编成，比如冬青、槲寄生、松枝等等，然后再用松果、桂皮、蝴蝶结甚至应季水果来装饰。特别爱赶时尚者干脆用圣诞彩球制成环状。
罗马人曾经把花环带在头上。但是不知道什么时候，花环成了挂在墙上的饰品。原因之一可能是，人们把比赛中赢得的冠军花环挂起来展示，有点像今天人们陈列奖杯。
基督教会的“将临期”(Advent，迎接耶稣降生的一段时期)内挂花环的习俗起源于德国，一般插上四枝蜡烛，进入12月每一个星期日点燃一枝，代表着人们在等候耶稣的降生。对于基督徒来说，花环的常青以及圆形代表着人类永恒的希望、不朽的生命。

过节必备的圣诞袜子
圣诞袜子挂在壁炉边，没有壁炉的话，干脆贴在窗户上、大门上，宗旨是要让圣诞老人看得见，别忘了给您留礼物。
传说，一位贫穷的老人担心付不起嫁妆，没有人会娶自己的三个女儿为妻。圣徒尼古拉斯得知了他的烦恼，希望能够帮助他们。在圣诞夜，老人的三个女儿把长筒袜挂在壁炉边烤干的时候，尼古拉斯通过烟囱往袜子里面扔满了金币。消息传开后，别人也开始挂上长筒袜，指望得到圣人的礼物。
圣诞老人的原型据说就是圣徒尼古拉斯。
平淡与圣诞
挂完了装饰，顿时有了气氛。还有精力的话，可以把圣诞卡串挂起来，如同万国旗；或者，烘烤姜味饼干，既能饱口福，也可串起来做挂件。信教的朋友，还可以摆上一套耶稣诞生的场景，借机给孩子讲讲圣诞节的真正意义。
然后，您就可以泡上一杯茶，开始享受了。
享受的同时，别忘了，光鲜靓丽的装饰背后，更重要的是借圣诞节的机会，传达爱意与关怀。
家是避风港，圣诞假日通常也是人们呆在家里时间最多的节日。
