A BILATERAL free trade agreement with China would deliver the Australian economy a boost of $146 billion in real GDP terms, the Australian China Business Council said today.

A report prepared for the council by the Centre for International Economics found that trade liberalisation between the two nations would deliver a consistent increase in consumption of 0.7 per cent, topping at 1 per cent growth within two years of implementation of an FTA.

"The Australia China Business Council has long advocated increased liberalisation between Beijing and Canberra, and this report confirms our view that a comprehensive agreement would yield major results for the Australian economy," ACBC national chairman Frank Tudor said in a statement.
