As writer P.J. O’Rourke once wrote, age and guile beat youth, innocence and a bad haircut. But that might not apply to these Asian entrepreneurs who have managed to be extremely successful before hitting the age of 50. (As for the quality of the haircuts on these businessmen, you can decide for yourself when you go to the slideshow—my vote for best tonsorial arrangement goes to Vikram Chand of Singapore’s Vega Foods.)
Other than ambition, youth and the endless energy that goes with it, they have little in common, other than the fact that they have been profiled in the pages of FORBES ASIA magazine over the past year (and are all male). Half of them are in involved in web businesses while the other five are involved in airlines, food, coal mining, power tools and sportswear (one wonders if any of them will eventually branch out into pharmaceuticals, healthcare or wrinkle creams as they pass the half-century mark).
Five of these entrepreneurs are based in China, while the others are in Pakistan, Malaysia, Japan, Singapore and Indonesia. Fashion e-monger Yusaku Maezawa, a mere 35 years of age, is the youngster of the group (all ages are from when the profiles appeared in the magazine). And like many entrepreneurs,Maezawa is philanthropic: At the time we wrote about him he had donated $3.7 million to the Japanese Red Cross for victims of the March earthquake and tsunami.
Tenacity characterizes these entrepreneurs.Zhou Hongyi, founder of Qihoo 360 Technology, China’s largest internet security software provider, is not afraid to battle with his competitors. In our profile in September we said that Zhou is “often aiming his firepower at rivals such as Robin Li of Baidu and Pony Ma Huateng of Tencent in China’s online turf wars.”(Zhou and Ma were once friends but are now bitter rivals.)Zhou’s six-year-old company (Qihoo means “magic tiger” in Chinese) listed on the NYSE in March and sold at a recent$17.
Given what they’ve achieved so far, we’ll likely be seeing more of these gentlemen for decades to come.

Monis Rahman41, founder and CEO of Naseeb Networks Inc., based in Lahore, Pakistan: His Rozee.pk is Pakistan's largest jobs website, with 500,000 unique visitors a month.
Tony Fernandes47, founder and CEO of Malaysia's AirAsia and Tune Group: Our 2010 Forbes Asia Businessman of the Year pioneered discount airlines in Asia.
Vikram Chand47, CEO of Singapore's Vega Foods: His company markets and distributes packaged foods to over two-dozen African countries.
