China's top court said it has executed aprimary school teacher found guilty of raping or sexually abusing 26 girls.
中国最高人民法院表示已经对于一个被判强奸和性虐26名女孩的小学老师处以死刑。
Li Jishun had committed the crimes between2011 and 2012 while teaching at a village school in Gansu province.
在甘肃省的一个乡村小学，李吉顺在2011-2012年间在教学过程中犯了罪。
He preyed on pupils aged 4 to 11 who were"young and timid", according to a statement by the Supreme People'sCourt reported by local media.
他专门抓住4-11岁的那些“年轻和胆小的”孩子，根据当地媒体报道的最高人民法庭的一份声明中表示。
It said there have been more than 7,000child sex abuse cases in recent years and that the trend is on the rise.

'Grave threat'

Li had raped 21 of his victims and sexuallyabused the other five in classrooms, dormitories, and the forest surroundingthe village near Wushan town.

The statement said that some of his victimshad been raped or abused more than once. It made no mention of how he wascaught.

But it said that the Gansu court had foundhim "a grave threat to society" and noted that he had committed thecrimes within just one year.

"The Supreme People's Court thusbelieves that it was appropriate for Li Jishun to be executed," it said.

Local media ran the story with caricaturesof the man depicting him as a wolf gobbling up children.

His sentencing was met with widespreadapproval on China's microblogging platform Weibo, with many expressing shock atthe youth of his victims.

"Four years old? I can't believeit," said one. "A death sentence is too good for this man,"wrote another commenter.

In a rare disclosure of abuse statistics,the Supreme People's Court told local media that the courts heard 7,145 casesof child sexual abuse between 2012 and 2014.

The figures showed that the number of caseswent up by about 40% during those years.
