China's Government has dismissed Australia's complaints about the case of detained Rio Tinto executive Stern Hu assimply "making noise".

'Speaking in Beijing, spokesman Qin Gang said criticism from Australia would not influence China's handling of the case, and also made comments which would again suggest that his Government has already determined that Mr Hu is guilty.

Mr Qin began last night's press conference on a philosophical note as he was asked for the latest on the detention of Mr Hu and three other Rio Tinto employees who are accused of industrial espionage.

By "honourable means" Qin Gang said China requires companies to actin good faith and to have strong business ethics - that they should not be have "sneakily".

If that sounded like Beijing has already made up its mind that Mr Huand the other Rio Tinto staff are guilty, he went on to make that point even more clearly.

"The actions of the Rio Tinto staff have caused losses to China's interests. I believe Stern Hu and Rio Tinto are fully aware of this,"he said.

He said it would not be in Australia's interests to do so.

《澳大利亚人报》就曾在一篇分析文章中指出，胡士泰被捕，不仅是胡家庭的危机，也是澳政府的危机，因为这件事情将影响到澳大利亚对中国的主要出口产品——铁矿石的生意。既然涉及“国家利益”，加上中国逮捕胡士泰又涉及所谓“人权”问题，因此一向标榜要体现西方价值观的澳大利亚媒体自然要站出来说话，做“民意”的代言人。
从《国际先驱导报》记者对当地媒体的观察来看，澳媒体在力拓间谍案这件事情的报道上对中国事务是存有偏见的，捕风捉影甚至动辄“上纲上线”的报道也不少。这与当地一些媒体从业人员对中国的不了解有关，与他们以意识形态划分两个阵营的老式思维有关，加上一些记者将个人的好恶参杂到对华报道中去，对中国的发展和进步视而不见，报道中的失实和偏颇之处自然难免。
关于力拓，大家众说纷纭，国内及国外媒体的报道都不尽相同，国内网友的态度也各有不同。希望澳媒体和反对党冷静对待间谍案，不要大肆炒作，干扰中国的司法程序，影响澳中两国关系的大局。同时希望中国司法规范，政府可以强硬一些，妥善处理此事。使之对我国政治及经济的影响降到最小。
