近几年我不怎么关注奥萨马本拉登的新闻了，我们的漫画作家也是如此。他们在杂志上最后一次涉及这个话题还是在2007年，Mick Stevens讽刺语音识别技术可以帮助锁定基地组织的位置。
本拉登的难以捉摸，加上我们政府的低效率，是911之后几年中漫画家们主要嘲讽的对象。

I haven’t thought about Osama bin Laden much in recent years, and neither have our cartoonists. Their last direct reference in the magazine was in 2007, when Mick Stevens satirized the voice-print technology that was supposed to help locate the leader of Al Qaeda.
The combination of bin Laden’s elusiveness and our government’s ineffectualness were certainly on cartoonists’ minds for a couple of years after 9/11:
The November 12, 2001, issue was the first cartoon issue after 9/11. It had a feature called “The Way We Laugh Now,” with cartoons not about bin Laden but what he had wrought. Subscribers can look at the whole thing, but here are few samples for everyone.
The heightened climate of fear generated those jokes, so the cartoons have lost some of their bite. We may laugh differently now, but the unspoken point was that laughter was part of being alive. That was true before Osama bin Laden became a threat, and will continue to be true now that bin Laden is gone. |
