BEIJING — Chinese authorities are investigatingtwo Canadians citizens on suspicion of stealing state secrets about China’s military and national defenseresearch, state media said. 北京讯——据中国官方媒体称，中国当局日前对两名涉嫌窃取中国军事国防机密的加拿大公民展开调查。
The officialXinhua News Agency said in a one-paragraph report late Monday that KevinGarratt and Julia Dawn Garratt were being investigated by the state securitybureau in China’s northeastern city of Dandongthat borders North Korea.Xinhua did not provide further details. The offense of stealing state secretsis a serious crime in China. 新华社官方在周一晚些时候发表的一段报告上称，Kevin Garratt和Julia Dawn Garratt正在接受国家安全局的调查，所在地为与朝鲜接壤、位于中国东北的丹东市。新华社并没有提供更多细节。窃取国家机密在中国是一项严重的罪行。
The Canadiannewspaper The Globe and Mail said the Garratts are a Vancouvercouple who have lived in Chinasince 1984 and have run a popular coffee shop in Dandong since 2008. 加拿大《环球游报》称Garratts夫妇是温哥华人，从1984年以来就一直生活在中国，并且从2008年开始在丹东经营着一家颇受欢迎的咖啡店。
Theaccusations against the couple came nearly a week after Canada accused a China-sponsored hacker ofinfiltrating Canada’s National Research Council, thecountry’s top research and developmentorganization. 此前，中国政府曾被加拿大控诉“援助黑客渗透加拿大国家研究委员会（加拿大最高研发机构）”，而中国正是于此将近一周之后对该对加拿大夫妻发出了指控。

Canada’s foreign affairs department said itwas aware of reports that the two Canadians had been detained and was tryingget more information. The department said consular officials were ready toprovide assistance. 加拿大外交部称已了解到该两名加拿大公民被扣留的报告，并努力获取更多相关信息。据该部门介绍，加拿大领事已经准备为两名加拿大公民提供帮助。
