Mao as a young man on his way to the city of Anyuan to lead a miners' strike. This oil painting becomes an icon of the Cultural Revolution. It is printed as poster in an estimated 900 million copies. The poster is to be seen almost everywhere, in houses, factories and offices.

Lin Biao is the inventor of the Little Red Book and the architect of the Mao cult. After Liu Shaoqi's downfall he becomes Mao's designated successor. In 1970 he dies under mysterious circumstances.

工农兵(1966-1972)
Workers, peasants and soldiers (gong, nong, bing) are considered to be the pillars of the new Chinese society. During the Cultural Revolution they are portrayed as the rulers of the country. In reality, of course, they are just the people, ruled by the Party. In these posters, political loyalty to Mao is much more important than - for instance - participating in industrial or agricultural production.
