Huawei
Rank: 1, among engineering majors
Huawei is the top choice for Chinese engineering students this year, ahead of international heavyweights including Google (GOOAV), Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500) and BMW.
The company is best known for its telecom infrastructure products, but it is also making a splash in Asia with new smartphone offerings.
Google
Rank: 2, among engineering majors
Google has a complicated relationship with the Chinese government, having repeatedly sparred with Beijing over censorship issues.
But the dust-ups have not tarnished the Internet giant's reputation among Chinese students. This year it topped homegrown firms including Tencent (TCEHY), Baidu (BIDU) and Alibaba.
Bank of China
Rank: 1, among business majors
Bank of China is one of the four large state-backed lenders in China.
The special status brings huge competitive advantages, and an obligation to balance corporate initiatives with the priorities of the state. The bank was also the top choice for business majors last year.
ICBC
Rank: 2, among business majors
ICBC is the chosen acronym of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, a Beijing-based bank founded in 1984.

Apple
Rank: 1, among liberal arts majors
Apple has a tremendous reputation and sales record in China despite having only a handful of retail outlets in the country.
Yet that hasn't stopped Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500)'s expansion in the country, highlighted by last year's landmark deal with China Mobile (CHL), the world's largest carrier by subscribers.
Baidu
Rank: 1, among liberal arts majors
Baidu (BIDU) is China's answer to Google.
The Beijing-based company has almost 21,000 employees, and is engaged in a battle with Tencent and Alibaba for the title of China's top tech company.
