Research firm Universum surveys university students in China each year to see where they most want to work. These are the dream employers for students in six different areas of study.

Huawei

Rank: 1, among engineering majors

Huawei is the top choice for Chinese engineering students this year, ahead of international heavyweights including Google (GOOAV), Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500) and BMW.

The company is best known for its telecom infrastructure products, but it is also making a splash in Asia with new smartphone offerings.

Google

Rank: 2, among engineering majors

Google has a complicated relationship with the Chinese government, having repeatedly sparred with Beijing over censorship issues.

But the dust-ups have not tarnished the Internet giant's reputation among Chinese students. This year it topped homegrown firms including Tencent (TCEHY), Baidu (BIDU) and Alibaba.

Bank of China

Rank: 1, among business majors

Bank of China is one of the four large state-backed lenders in China.

The special status brings huge competitive advantages, and an obligation to balance corporate initiatives with the priorities of the state. The bank was also the top choice for business majors last year.

ICBC

Rank: 2, among business majors

ICBC is the chosen acronym of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, a Beijing-based bank founded in 1984.

It is also one of China's massive state-owned banks, and can be found in 16,000 locations across the country.

Sinopec

Rank: 1, among science majors

Sinopec is China's largest oil producer and refiner. The company has grown rapidly in recent years, signing new development deals with foreign partners.

Procter & Gamble

Rank: 2, among science majors

It's a long way from Cincinnati to Beijing, but that hasn't stopped Procter & Gamble (PG, Fortune 500).

The maker of consumer products like Bounty, Charmin, Tide and Bounce beat companies including Unilever (UL) for the second spot on this year's list.

Apple

Rank: 1, among liberal arts majors

Apple has a tremendous reputation and sales record in China despite having only a handful of retail outlets in the country.

Yet that hasn't stopped Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500)'s expansion in the country, highlighted by last year's landmark deal with China Mobile (CHL), the world's largest carrier by subscribers.

Baidu

Rank: 1, among liberal arts majors

Baidu (BIDU) is China's answer to Google.

The Beijing-based company has almost 21,000 employees, and is engaged in a battle with Tencent and Alibaba for the title of China's top tech company.

Pfizer

Rank: 1, among health majors

Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer (PFE, Fortune 500) entered China in the 1980s and now employs more than 9,000 people in the country.

The company says it has invested more than $1 billion in China and has business operations in 250 cities.

Johnson & Johnson

Rank: 2, among health majors

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ, Fortune 500) beat out challengers including Roche (RHHBF), Bayer (BAYRY) and GSK (GSK) for the second position in this year's ranking by health and medical students.

Like Pfizer, J&J operates several research and development centers in China.

Jun He Law Offices

Rank: 1, among law students

Jun He employs more than 400 lawyers in nine offices spread across localities including Beijing, Shenzhen, New York and Silicon Valley.

The firm's clients range from Brazilian power tool manufacturers to major international banks and state-owned Chinese enterprises.

King & Wood Mallesons

Rank: 2, among law students

Ranked No. 1 last year in the law category, King & Wood Mallesons maintains 31 offices around the globe.

The firm practices English, Australian, Chinese, European and Hong Kong law.
