Sarkozy defends 'European values' on Tibet

French President Nicolas Sarkozy -- whose ties with China were strained by his recent meeting with the Dalai Lama -- said on Friday that he would find ways to talk to Beijing without renouncing "European values".
法国总统萨科奇，由于最近跟达赖喇嘛的会面而和中国的关系大打折扣，他在周五表示他将寻求一种不放弃“欧洲价值观”的方式与中国沟通。
Sarkozy told journalists he aimed to find "the means to have a calmdialogue with China," but "not at the price of renouncing our ownEuropean values."
萨科奇告诉记者，他的目标是寻求“同中国开展冷静对话的方式”，但是“又不能以牺牲‘欧洲价值观’为代价”。
"Having good or bad relations with a partner is not about lettingoneself being told what to do," Sarkozy said at the end of a two-day EUsummit he hosted in Brussels.
“合作伙伴的关系好坏并不能用是否听命于对方而考量，” 萨科奇在其主持的欧盟峰会后表示，会议在布鲁塞尔召开，为期两天。
Beijing scrapped an EU-China due to be held at the beginning of themonth after Sarkozy lined up talks with the Dalai Lama in Gdansk,northern Poland.
此前，由于萨科奇执意在波兰北部城市Gdansk会见达赖喇嘛，北京取消了本应在本月初举行的中欧会议。
