China's CPI fell 1.5 per cent in April from a year earlier, marking the third straight month of decline, while the PPI fell 6.6 per cent, the fifth straight month of steepening declines, data issued by the National Bureau of Statistics showed today.

The CPI will likely continue to fall in the coming months, reflecting last year's higher base and weak external demand, said Jing Ulrich, China equities chairwoman of JPMorgan.

China's major economic indicators began to show improvement in March as fixed-asset investment and industrial output growth accelerated significantly, and manufacturing activity accelerated last month, according to purchasing managers' indexes.
