The Philippine economy shrank by 2.3 per cent in the first three months of the year from the previous period, posting the biggest quarter-on-quarter contraction in more than 20 years, as the government’s fiscal stimulus package failed to take off.
From a year ago, the country’s gross domestic product hardly grew, rising by a mere 0.4 per cent, way below even the government’s forecast of 1.8-2.8 per cent growth.
