看过原文后, 我就给报社去了封抱怨信, 见下文.
Dear Sir or Madam,
As a subscriber of Sunday’s the Philadelphia Inquirer, I’m writing to express my angry after I read Today's (Sunday) newspapers. One of the articles at page C3, entitled "Activists ignore China's persecution of Uighurs", made me really sick. The truth about Uighurs in China in the article was extremely distorted, and accusations were completely false. Basically the article just ignored facts and made up rumors.
"...Their language is forbidden in schools," the article said. However, the fact is Uighurs' language is taught in schools at Xinjiang. As a matter of fact, lots of Uighurs use their language daily and some of them are barely able to speak China’s official language (like English in US).
"Young Uighurs are often forced to work in faraway provinces,” the article said. But the fact is it's not a drafting-like program at all, rather than a volunteer program for Uighurs good. There are a lot of unemployed Uighurs in Xijiang. To solve the problem, the Xinjiang government develops the program to encourage young Uighurs to voluntarily work at economically developed provinces to earn their better pay. Again, it's volunteer program, not forceful one! At the same time, the government sets the other program to attract businessmen, who are based in economically developed provinces, to invest at Xinjing so that the Xinjing's economy can create more jobs for Xinjing’s Uighurs.
"Han Chinese...are encourage to move to Xinjing," the article said. Just as explained above, the government program is to attract other provinces' businessmen to invest at Xinjing. The businessmen can be any ethnics, and the program never mentions only for Han businessmen. There are 56 ethnics in China, including Uighur and Han.
……
There are other rumors in the article. I'm not going to go over all of them in my email. This really bad article absolutely makes me sick. I've seen some biased articles in past in the newspapers and haven’t had so strong reactions due to free-speech freedom in my mind. However, the article spreads rumors this time are too much! As a subscriber of your newspapers, I would like to see an apology from you!
Sincerely, |
