The world doesn't have confidence in China because it lackstransparency, the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, told RFI inan exclusive interview. He blamed China’s shortcomings on a lack ofpress freedom and free speech, which he says is damaging the country’simage.
世界因为中国缺少透明而对中国不信任，藏人精神领袖达赖喇嘛在独家采访时告诉法广记者。他指责中国在新闻自由和言论自由上的缺点，说这个问题损害了中国的形象。
Speaking to Yan Chen, of RFI’s Chinese service, in the northernIndian city of Dharamsala, the Dalai Lama said that China is wellpositioned to occupy an important place on the world scene – and istherefore obliged to help and serve the world.
在印度北部城市达兰萨接受法广中文服务时，达赖喇嘛说中国将在世界上占据着一个重要的位置--因此也有着帮助和服务世界的责任。
But he warned that China is far from assuming the responsibilities of a great country.
但是，他警告说中国现在还远没有肩负起一个大国应尽的责任。
“Ifone day China wants to occupy its position as a great power withdignity, it must move towards political transparency. It is becauseChina is not transparent, that it is feared by its neighbours and theinternational community,” he said.
“如果有一天中国想要做一个有尊严的大国的话，它必须走向政治透明。因为如果中国政治不透明，它的邻国和国际社会就会怕它，”他说道
The Dalai Lama, who was notreceived by Barack Obama during his recent visit to the United States,said the US President was right not to irritate the Chinese governmentby speaking with the Tibetan leader before talks in China.
达赖喇嘛，在谈到最近访问美国时没有受到奥巴马接见时说，美国总统在访问中国前为了不激怒中国而不见他是对的。
“I agree with him because our final goal is to resolve the Tibetanproblem … It was agreed that when Obama returns from China, he willmeet with me when it is possible,” he said, adding that the meeting islikely to be at the end of the year.
“我同意他这么做是因为我们的最终目标是解决西藏问题…我们都同意当奥巴马从中国回来后，他会在可能的时间见我，”他说道，并且补充说这个会见很可能会在今年年底。
“I saw the German Chancellor and the French President last year, andthey were both punished by the Chinese government. If Obama meets withme now, the Chinese will have a problem. Should they also punish Obama?”
“我看到德国总理和法国总统去年，当他们都受到了中国政府的惩罚。如果奥巴马和我见面，中国人那里会有问题的。他们时候也要惩罚奥巴马？”
In 1954, when in Beijing as a delegate, the Dalai Lama met Uighurrepresentatives from China’s restive Xinjiang province. He said that atthe time he had been aware they were suffering deeply and were unhappywith their situation.
在1954年，当作为一个代表去北京的时候，达赖喇嘛也见到了来自中国难以驾驭的新疆省的代表们。他说在那个时候他就能感到他们受着深深的苦，而且对自己的处境不高兴。
When asked about a possible alliance between the Tibetan and Uighurpeople to fight for the kind of autonomy he advocates, the Tibetanleader said he had discussed plans for the future while meeting theUighurs again after he left Tibet in 1959.
当问到一个可能的为他做倡导的自治而斗争的藏人和维吾尔人之间的联盟时，藏人领袖说他从1959年离开西藏以后再次见到维吾尔人时就讨论过关于未来的计划。
