Google may be technically smarter than Microsoft. When it comes to maturity, Microsoft is a grown-up adult, whereas Google, with its naivete and arrogance, reminds us of a spoiled child of some nouveau riche. Does Google really expect China to succumb to the pressure of foreign governments regarding censorship? Microsoft has learned its lesson in China and now focuses on making money there for their shareholders. Google, with its problems in Australia and Europe, still wants the whole world doing things their way.

Google burned that bridge when it decided to "pull-out" of China. It's not that I don't think eliminating Internet censorship is a good thing, its just that Google has a weak position. Trying to involve the EU to get China to open its doors probably won't help. The only thing that might help is people within China asking for it. If people within China asked help from the EU then the claim might be recognized. However, that isn't likely to happen anytime soon. |
