One reporter in China went above and beyond the call of duty when she abandoned her own wedding to report on the massive earthquake that struck the city of Ya'an in southwest China Saturday.
Appearing on-air in her wedding gown, complete with the veil, the TV reporter covered the breaking news and interviewed residents affected by the quake that killed at least 156 people.
According to The South China Morning Post, a photo of the working bride, identified as Chen Ying, went viral on Sina Weibo -- a Chinese microblogging site similar to Twitter -- as many netizens praised the reporter for her "professional spirit" during the tragic event.
As Shanghaiist notes, Chen was apparently en route to the ceremony when the earthquake struck Saturday morning (no word on whether she rescheduled the ceremony).
The coverage -- striking for its juxtaposition of a reporter wearing a wedding dress in the midst of disaster -- is the latest example of an off-duty professional jumping into action. Earlier this week, several reporters who ran the Boston Marathon, quickly shifted into reporter mode in order to provide firsthand coverage of the bombing.

Good for her. What man would do the same thing, even in this "enlightened" country?

There is a lot of cynicism in the comments. Sometimes, just look at the bright side. Praise what she did. It would make yourself happy and people around you happy.

The tagline on the photo -- "news girl" -- REALLY? Would you refer to a male of her age -- the groom at a wedding and a reporter --as a "news boy"? Not in 100 years.

She would never think about doing this, if it, wasn't for the publicity garnered through Facebook!

Don't blame the mirror because you have a broken nose, cyberidiots. Some professionals still act like professionals.

This story sounds a bit fishy. How did the bride-to-be get her crew assembled to commence reporting unless the crew was already accompanying her to the wedding site?

It's not about the government or communism, it's her respect for the lives of those people! Her husband and family would be proud of her! At least she did something in this disaster, and what did you do? like sneer at her sacrifice and show off your indifference?

Weddings in China most often don't have priests. The legal part would be over usually before the wedding, which consists of having a feast with all your relatives and friends and coworkers and such. So even if she doesn't report to her duty, having a wedding on that day would be considered inappropriate.
