(CNN) -- Hundreds of students remainedbarricaded in Taiwan'sLegislature early Wednesday inprotest of the ruling party's push for
a trade pact with China, which demonstrators claimwill hurt the island.
星期三早晨,台湾百余名大学生因不满执政党(国民党)推动与大陆的贸易协议, 聚集并占领“立法院”进行抗议。
他们声称该协议会损害台湾利益。

The protesters, mostly university students,entered the main assembly hall inside the Legislative Yuan in Taipei
on Tuesday night and blocked theentrances with chairs, accordingto images and accounts filed from the scene with CNN iReport.
据CNN iReport现场报道所传来的图像显示,抗议者多数为大学生,他们于星期二晚进入了台北立法院的主议场,
并用座椅堵住议场所有出入口。

Police responded but had not dispersed theprotesters, who also filled the streets around the Legislature in the center ofTaipei.

The students said they plan to occupy theLegislature until Friday's session,when the pact was to be deliberated.
这些学生说他们打算“占领立法院”直到星期五院会对服贸协议审查作出表决为止。

Taiwan's state news agency reported that 38 police officers were injured whenmore than 400 protesters tookover the Legislature.
据台湾“中央社”报道,在400多名抗议者“攻占立法院”的同时,38名警察也因此受伤。

Four protesters were arrested in twounsuccessful attempts to evict them, the news agency reported.
此外,该社还报道了4名抗议者因两次驱离未遂被逮捕。

Police said there were more than 2,000protesters both inside and outside the building, with a equal number of officers on thescene.
警方说,“立法院”前后聚集了超过2000名抗议者,当局也调动了2000多名警力。

"We do not want to clash with thepolice," said protester and iReporter Shanny Chang, 19.

One CNN iReporter said that after theprotesters took over, hundreds gathered outside the building, with some making speeches and singingsongs.

In a video, a young woman sings Bob Dylan'ssong "The Times They Are a-Changin' , which many associate with theprotest spirit of the 1960s.

The trade pact was signed last year in Shanghai to ease investment and trade between the twolongtime adversaries,mainland Chinaand Taiwan.

But opponents have voiced concerns that not onlywill Taiwan's economy behurt as businesses and investments flow to China, but the island's democratic systemcould be undermined by closer ties with the mainland.

"The trade agreement was not supervised bythe people of Taiwan,and benefits only big companies and harnesses our jobs," Chang wrote."But I do agree we need to open Taiwanto the world, even Chinatoo.

But NOT this way, not by signing an agreementthat is not fair to us and was negotiated by people who have no profession inthese territories.

We must rewrite the agreement and make it workfor the both of us, towards a peaceful future between the strait of Taiwan."

An iReporter identified as kwarrior, anAsian-American living in Taiwan, wrote that the government's handlingof the trade agreement "was unconstitutional and a blatant violation ofthe people's rights. ...

I care deeply because my parents are Taiwaneseand they always loved their nation like no other.

I am personally affected because I value therights of the people to voice and make changes in a democratic country."

In a statement, Amnesty International urged security forcesto show restraint.
在一项声明中,大赦国际极力主张保安部队应有所克制。

"The situation is clearly tense. ... Whilepolice have a duty to maintain order and to protect the safety of the public. Forceshould only be used as a last resort.
“情势显然是很紧张的…但是警方有义务维持现场秩序,保证公众的安全。只有在万不得已的情况下才能使用武力。

The authorities must ensure the rights of allthose protesting are upheld and respected." said Roseann Rife, the group'sEast Asia research director.

Last month, Taiwanand Chinaheld their highest-level talks in more than six decades, marking the firstgovernment-to-government contact since the pair's acrimonious split in 1949.

After the meeting, China's state news agency Xinhuasaid the two sides had agreed to open a regular communication channel.

Previous contact between the two sides has beenconducted through semi-official foundations or through political parties, not by government ministers acting intheir official capacities.

Beijing considers Taiwana breakaway province and has never ruled out the use of force to achievereunification.

Relations between the two sides have improvedsince TaiwanPresident Ma Ying-jeou came to power in 2008.

On Wednesday, Ma called for the passage of thetrade pact.
