Olympic torch re-lit in Tiananmen Square

BEIJING, China (CNN) -- China launched its Olympic torch relay in a controlled ceremony in front of invited guests
at Tiananmen Square on Monday, starting a historic trek that was praised by the country's leaders and condemned by
critics who are waiting to protest along the route.

The torch will be taken on a 130-day journey around the world in what is said to be the longest torch relay in
Olympic history.

At Monday's ceremony, a Chinese leader called the torch a symbol of "peace, friendship and progress."
