Chinese prefer to watch olympics on foreign-branded TVSNationalistic pride may be reaching unprecedented levels in China asthe Beijing Olympic games approach, but their patriotic fervor doesn’tseem to extend as far as the television showroom. According to website The China Perspective,Gome, the country’s largest appliance retailer, is anticipating itscustomers clearly favor Japanese and Korean television sets overChinese made ones.
In a $320 million order from suppliers placed by GOME inanticipation of strong sales in the final five weeks before the gamesbegin, 65% of the business went to Sony, Samsung, Sharp and LG, and theremaining 35% to local brands.
