The woman in that picture in fact was a very famous criminal in China who killed her husband and was executed in 1995. The case was so complicated that it was kinda huge in China in the 90s'.
Another truth is that the woman was an ethnic Han, not Tibetan, which can be told clearly from her appearance! Not to mention that her name was labeled on that board she wore and the name was by no means Tibetan.
Besides, the uniform that officers in the picture were wearing is a very old kind which certainly wasn't the uniform that Chinese officers wore in 2005.
But how did the magazine and some other websites perceive the story? Look at the caption below the picture that the mountain-hiking magazine used. It reads, “...show execution of Tibetan prisoners on Jan 2005. The sign on this woman's neck reportedly accuses her of murder.”
So how many mistakes can there be in just two sentences?
- This is not a Tibetan woman.
- The execution took place in 1995 which is a decade before 2005.
- The reporter can read the sign correctly for the woman's accusal while he/she cannot recognize the criminal's evidently non-Tibetan name.
I was shocked that a lie with that many rips can be published on a serious magazine. This is definitely NOT just some mistakes that the western media OCCASIONALLY make. They either jump into conclusions before they bother to use their journalists' brain to think and investigate, or they make lies up on purpose!! My western friends, do you or do you not wonder what kind of person would fabricate such a detailed story and spread it around the world?!
I know, even if we clear things up here, some westerners may still question China about the death penalty. I for one can tell that we Chinese also feel deeply uncomfortable with the scene and no one enjoys it. Besides, there has been great improvement over years. Now euthanasia has been adopted and in 2007 China reformed the way capital cases are handled, already leading to a substantial reduction in executions.
China is getting better in our own way. We truly welcome kind opinions and constructive criticism from other countries, however we do not need anybody to lecture us on what democracy or human rights are, especially when the the person who points fingers actually doesn't know the least of the truth. Arrogance and the sense of moral superiority have obviously made them ignorant. [ 本帖最后由 三宅一生 于 2008-4-22 06:36 编辑 ] |
