The Interfaith Alliance of Southeast Kansas will host a public showing of “Dalai Lama Renaissance” at 3 p.m. Sunday in Pittsburg Memorial Auditorium.

There will be no admission charge, but a free will offering will be accepted for the benefit of the Dalai Lama film organization.

The film is narrated by actor Harrison Ford. At the edge of the new millennium, the Dalai Lama of Tibet invited 40 of the west’s leading and most innovative thinkers to his residence in northern India to discuss the world’s problems and how they can be solved.

The Wakan Film Foundation took an 18-member crew to the event and shot more than 140 hours of video footage as participants explored the future of mankind. This was edited into an 81-minute documentary titled “Dalai Lama Renaissance.”

The Dalai Lama fled his homeland in 1959 after it was taken over by China, and has lived in exile since that time. While he has continued to speak out against the lack of religious freedom in Tibet and Chinese efforts to wipe out Tibetan culture, the  Dalai Lama insists that any solution must be peaceful. In 1989 he received the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to seek the non-violent liberation of Tibet.

“Dalai Lama Renaissance” has been shown at more than 40 international film festivals and in more than 80 U.S. cities.
