The Mexican Government is recommending its citizensstay away from China after authorities imposed a quarantine on a HongKong hotel where a Mexican guest fell ill.

About 300 people in a Hong Kong hotel are being quarantined for thenext week after a Mexican guest was diagnosed with swine flu.

Guests and staff at the Metropark hotel are being given the anti-viral drug Tamiflu as a precaution.

The Mexican Foreign Minister, Patricia Espinosa, says China istaking "unjustified" action against Mexicans in reaction to the swineflu epidemic.

She says Chinese authorities are isolating people who are not even infected under "unacceptable conditions."

One of the guests, Juliet Keys, says many of the people inside the hotel are frustrated that they cannot leave.

"I suppose we were all a bit stunned really," she said.

"It was just a bit unbelievable... you just don't believe thatsomeone can tell you you're going to be trapped, you can't leave yourhotel for seven days.

"There are several guards on the door, there are police all outside the hotel, stopping people from coming in.

"They are allowing people to drop off things for guests. Like I hada friend of mine drop off a laptop and books and videos for me."

One man went into the Metropark briefly, but was asked to return for the quarantine.

"I just stayed two minutes at the lobby. I didn't check in," he said.

"I didn't go up to a room, I just spoke with one person inside.

"So if the person is contaminated, perhaps now I am contaminated, but I have no symptoms.

"But if I am contaminated, then perhaps you are contaminated, so why I have to go inside I don't know. It's unfair."

While some guests say it is an overreaction, the Government says itis taking stringent measures to prevent a massive outbreak in the city.

Hong Kong's undersecretary for food and health, Gabriel Leung, thanked the Metropark guests for their patience.

"On behalf of the Government, I would very much like to thank all ofthe hotel guests and staff of Metropark in Wanchai who have showntremendous understanding and courage in being so adherent and compliantwith our public health order," he said.
