The World Bank is expecting China to continue growing at more than 7 per cent this year and next (Reuters)
The latest economic assessment of China says growth should remain respectable through to 2010.
The World Bank forecasts GDP growth of 7.2 per cent this year and 7.7 per cent next year.
The bank's quarterly report says Beijing's stimulus package of fourtrillion yuan ($730 billion) has maintained positive growth while othernations have fallen into recession.
World Bank senior China economist, Louis Kuijs, told RadioAustralia's Asia Pacific program the longer term prospects for Chinadepend on economic recovery in the rest of the world.
"Its real economy is pretty much integrated in the rest of theworld, so we don't see China recovering to the types of growth ratesthat it was used to until the world economy recovers," he said.
But Mr Kuijs says China is helping to give other countries a financial boost through its demand for imports.
"We do notice that China's growth and the ability of China to growin this weak environment, that type of growth is a net plus to theglobal economy," he said.
"For instance when we look at China's import data we see that involume terms, in real terms, China's imports are growing very brisklyat the moment," he said.
"That is helping many other economies including Australia becauseraw materials are one of the bright sides of China's imports at themoment." |
