The Chinese government says anyone found guilty ofkillings during the recent riots in the western city of Urumqi will beexecuted.
At least 150 people died in the violence in Xinjiang province.
Thousands of troops are maintaining order on the streets but tensions remain high.
The government has arrested hundreds of people involved in theviolence and says it will execute anyone found guilty of seriouscrimes.
In mixed suburbs where Uighur and Han Chinese live alongside eachother, there is mutual suspicion contained only by the securityoperation.
But there are signs life is slowly returning to normal.
Shops in the downtown area are beginning to open and the city'scentral square is now only guarded by a handful police and no soldiers. |
