Home Secretary Theresa May hasordered officials to issue Chinese artist Ai Weiwei a full six-month UK visa,reversing a decision not to grant him the travel document.

英国内政大臣特里萨·梅伊下令官员允许中国籍艺术家艾未未整整六个月的英国签证，扭转了不授予他旅游签证的决定。

The Home Office confirmed itsdecision following an earlier statement the home secretary was "lookinginto" the case.

The six-month visa wasinitially refused as the artist was accused of lying on his application form.

Earlier this week, Ai posted aletter on Instagram stating his entry to the UK had been restricted to a 20-dayvisa.

Ai said he had been told he hadfailed to declare his "criminal conviction", however although he wasdetained in China for 81 days in 2011, he has never been charged or convictedof a crime in China.

The artist is travelling toLondon for a landmark exhibition of his work at the Royal Academy of Arts,after Chinese authorities granted him a passport.

A spokesperson for the HomeOffice said a letter had been sent to Ai "apologising for theinconvenience caused".
