We, Anti-CNN.com and its volunteers, are a media-watch group dedicated to documenting the Western media’s bias and distortions. We are writing to you to call New York Times' credibility into question.
On July 6 The New York Times (NYT, henceforth) published a slide of 8 pictures, titled: “Deadly Riots in Urumqi.” On its 5th picture, it showed a riot victim of Han ethnicity lying in a hospital bed. But NYT's caption reads: “Uighurs injured at a hospital in the city during a media tour by the authorities

On July 8, Anti-CNN (AC, henceforth) published an exposé:“Reuters' Fool, NTY's Naivety,” disclosing NYT's slides’ glaring discrepancy by marking out the victim's Han-ethnicity name printed on the wall (visible in the picture) and the victim’s Han-looking face (visible in the picture as well).http://bbs.m4.cn/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=179267&;extra=&page=1
On July 10, the Reuters' Chinese Section responded, declaring that Reuters' original picture was captioned without the word “Uighurs”:“People who were injured during riots in Urumqi, rest in a hospital in the city during an official government tour for the media,...." Reuters' Chinese Section’s editor further added that if NYT, one of many Reuters’ clients,altered the original caption, it was beyond Reuters’ control.http://blogs.cn.reuters.com/blog ... %E5%90%97%EF%BC%9F/
We demand to know if NYT’s intention in altering the caption was to deceive the public or to knowingly stir up animosity between the Han ethnicity and the Uighur ethnicity of China.
Your slide show is mainly propelling misinformation on the7/5 riot incident. Picture 4 on the slide show says, “Police officers used fire hoses and batons to beat back rioters and detained Uighurs who appeared to be leading the protest, witnesses said.” But the picture, upon examination,clearly portrays police officers helping tow damaged vehicles. Furthermore, the picture does not show any evidence of police officers holding either batons or fire hoses.
