Colleague of seized US reporters leaves China
BEIJING (AFP) — An American journalist who was with two female colleagues when the women were seized by North Korean border guards last week has left China, the foreign ministry in Beijing said on Tuesday.
"It is understood from other authorities that the US male citizen has left China," foreign ministry spokesman Qin Gang told reporters, giving no other details.
South Korean media reports have named the man as Mitch Koss.
The detained journalists -- identified as Euna Lee, a Korean-American and Laura Ling, a Chinese-American -- work for Current TV in California.
North Korean state media has confirmed they were taken into custody on March 17.
Intelligence officials in the North are questioning them and will likely try to persuade them to confess to spying, the South Korean daily JoongAng Ilbo said Tuesday, citing a Seoul intelligence source.
