China has delayed the launch of its controversialpolicy to force manufacturers to install filtering software on all newcomputers.
The policy had been due to come into force today, but the government has not given a reason for the delay.
China had announced that every new computer made in the countrywould be pre-installed with software known as Green Dam Youth Escort.
It says the software is designed to block offensive material such as pornography or violent images.
But Chinese bloggers say hidden features in the software enable itto block sites which the Government considers politically unacceptable.
Human rights groups say the filter could strengthen Beijing's efforts to censor politically sensitive information.
The authorities have given no indication of when it might be introduced.
