China formally kicked off its mass celebrations of 60 years of communist rule with a 60-gun salute that rung out across Beijing's historic Tiananmen Square earlier today. Hundreds of thousands of participants marched past Tiananmen Square in costume or uniform, with floats and dancers mingling with soldiers and military hardware. It's nice to see that China is slowly getting its act together. And while the nation's leaders still cling stubbornly to the notion that they're running a Communist country, China's increasing forays into the wonders of capitalism belie something different. It'll be interesting to see where things stand in another 60 years...
